CSR Presents NADI With New Mobile Clinic

SHAH ALAM, 22 JULY 2020 – Central Sugars Refinery Sdn. Bhd. (CSR) continues to give back to the society through National Diabetes Institute (NADI) by presenting the organization with a Mobile Clinic to further assist NADI in its mission to prevent and control diabetes and its complications. CSR has been a partner to NADI since 2019 in promoting a healthy lifestyle among Malaysians with a commitment to spread awareness of consuming sugar responsibly and fighting diabetes.

The three-year (2019 – 2021) collaboration through NADI’s ‘Promote Healthy Lifestyle, Fight Diabetes’ Programme sees CSR sponsoring six series of roadshows throughout the country every year. To date, seven roadshows have been organised at urban and rural venues.. The Mobile Clinic sponsorship will enable NADI to provide a more convenient setting for health screenings during the roadshows for the public in need.

CSR’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Victor Ng handed over the Mobile Clinic’s key replica to NADI’s Honorary Chairman, Professor Dato’ Dr. Mustaffa Embong in a ceremony today on the ground of CSR in Batu Tiga, Shah Alam, witnessed by NADI’s key personnel, ACM-ISUZU officials as well as CSR employees.

“CSR means more than just its company name – Central Sugars Refinery. What it also means to us is Consume Sugar Responsibly, therefore, this is us educating Malaysians to consume sugar in a responsible manner so as to promote a healthy lifestyle. This partnership is also about our CSR – Corporate Social Responsibility. The Mobile Clinic will be more than just doing our bit for society but also our continuous caring effort for those in need ,” says Mr Victor Ng, CSR’s Chief Operating Officer.

He added, “This is part of our long journey to encourage the public to switch to Better Brown – our healthier sugar option which we have introduced last two years and is now becoming a popular choice for Malaysians. We give a lot of emphasis on innovation, hence we will continue to work with our strategic partners to develop new healthier sugar options to offer to consumers. We see the sugar business not only as a commodity but also an opportunity to become a Fast Moving Consumer Goods company responding to consumer needs and preferences.

The Mobile Clinic is provided to NADI to replace its 10-year-old vehicle and it will be utilised for the forthcoming CSR-NADI Roadshows. The Mobile Clinic will enable NADI to continue its activities to benefit the community in the prevention and control of diabetes which is on the rise in our country.

“Through the roadshows and screenings, CSR will be helping the government in the prevention and early diagnosis of diabetes and associated diseases so that early and effective treatment can be provided,” said NADI’s Honorary Chairman, Professor Dato’ Dr. Mustaffa Embong. “It is our hope that CSR, with its corporate social responsibility initiatives will continue to support NADI beyond the three years of the agreement,” he added.

NADI is planning to restart its roadshow by October 2020 after it was halted due to COVID-19 pandemic that has affected worldwide activities.
